Rosacea
General overview:
Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that commonly affects the face causing redness, swelling and pimples which resemble acne. It also causes dilation of the superficial blood vessels, especially on the cheeks and around the nose. It is exacerbated by many factors, including heat, smoking, spicy food and sunlight.
Treatment options:
- Topical treatments: creams to control the symptoms such as azelaic acid and brimonidine
- Systemic treatments: oral antibiotics such as metronidazole or doxycycline, oral isotretinoin
- Available medical procedures:
- Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL): also known as yellow laser
- Intense Pulse Light (IPL)
- Electrocautery
